Digital Transformation: Modernizing the Morrison Forrester Ecosystem
Morrison Foerster faced a common enterprise challenge: a fragmented digital presence built on a legacy bespoke CMS and 15 disparate WordPress instances. We spearheaded a comprehensive digital transformation, consolidating these assets into a unified, high-performance webstack designed for scalability, security, and editorial ease.
The Architecture: Speed & Scale
To handle the firm’s massive content library—exceeding 40,000 entries—we moved away from monolithic systems in favor of a modern, headless architecture.
Headless CMS & Infrastructure: We migrated all data into Contentstack, utilizing Netlify for deployment and GitHub for version control.
Performance via ISR: By leveraging Next.js and Incremental Static Regeneration (ISR), we solved the "long build time" dilemma. Updates to individual pages now go live nearly instantly without requiring a full site rebuild.
Design System Integrity: Using Storybook, we built a robust component library. These components are managed as a versioned package, ensuring visual consistency across all 15 sites while allowing for rapid front-end development.
One Repo, Three Strategic Site Types
Rather than managing 15 separate codebases, we utilized a Model Repository to power three distinct site architectures:
The Corporate Flagship: A sophisticated hub featuring deep integration for People, Capabilities, Resources, and Global Offices.
The Careers Portal: A dedicated environment tailored for talent acquisition and employer branding.
The Unified Blog Network: A single engine that powers 13 unique blogs. Each blog maintains its own configuration, navigation, and Twitter feeds, yet benefits from shared infrastructure.
Modular Authoring & Flexible UI
We empowered Morrison Forrester’s content teams with a "Lego-block" approach to page building.
Smart Components: From multi-column lists and nested accordions to side navigation bars, every element is reusable. The side nav system allows editors to group pages logically and sync navigation across multiple sections effortlessly.
The Power of Reference & Overrides: Content managers can use "Cards" to reference existing entries or use override fields to create bespoke thumbnails, providing total creative control without breaking the design system.
Advanced Resource Hubs: The resources section utilizes dynamic "Section Latest" logic to pull the newest content automatically, alongside interactive "flip card" UI for an engaging user experience.
Granular Governance
With 15 sites and various departments, security was paramount. We implemented a sophisticated labeling and permissions system within Contentstack. This allows specific teams to manage their respective blogs or sections without accessing the broader CMS, ensuring data integrity and reducing administrative overhead.
